Coverage at a glance
Controll Innerseal covers approximately 3 m² per litre across two coats. Use this table as a quick reference, or use the calculator above for an exact recommendation.
| Surface area | Innerseal needed | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 15 m² | 5 L | 1 × Innerseal 5L |
| 16–30 m² | 10 L | 2 × Innerseal 5L |
| 31–45 m² | 15 L | 3 × Innerseal 5L |
| 46–60 m² | 20 L | 1 × Innerseal 20L (better value) |
Highly absorbent surfaces may need a third coat. The calculator above accounts for two coats.
Permanent moisture protection — from the inside out
Most damp-proof products coat the surface. Innerseal works differently.
Innerseal is a deep-penetrating silicate sealer that soaks into concrete and masonry, then reacts with the minerals already in the substrate to form an invisible crystalline barrier inside the pore structure. The result: water can't get in, but vapour can still escape — so your structure stays dry without trapping moisture.
Because the protection lives inside the substrate, there's nothing on the surface to peel, crack, or wear off. The look and feel of the concrete or brick is unchanged. Apply once, protected for the life of the structure.
What you can seal with one 5L container
A single 5L container covers up to 15 m² — enough for most small-to-medium DIY projects around the home.
Terraces, decks & balconies
Seal concrete or stone-paved terraces above living spaces. Stops water reaching what's below.
Basements & garages
Treat concrete floors and walls to stop rising damp, condensation, and salt efflorescence.
Foundations & chimneys
Protect exposed brickwork, mortar joints, and concrete foundations from frost and water damage.
Block, Leca & render walls
Seal concrete block walls, Leca walls, and rendered surfaces — indoors and out.
How to apply
Innerseal is straightforward to apply yourself. No specialist contractor needed — just a low-pressure garden sprayer or a soft broom, depending on the surface.
Concrete block, Leca & rendered walls
- Clean the surface. Remove dust, loose material, and any old paint or coating mechanically. Innerseal needs bare substrate to penetrate.
- Apply first coat. Spray generously with a low-pressure garden sprayer until the surface is saturated.
- Wait 1 hour. Let the first coat soak in.
- Apply second coat. Same generous coverage. On highly absorbent surfaces, a third coat may be needed.
- Allow to cure. Surface is touch-dry in a few hours and fully cured overnight.
Garage floors, basements, terraces & balconies
- Clean the surface. Sweep, then remove oil, grease, or sealants. Substrate must be bare and dry-to-damp (not wet).
- Flood the surface. Pour Innerseal directly onto the concrete and spread evenly with a soft broom or squeegee.
- Keep it wet for 1 hour. Add more product to any dry spots — the longer it stays wet, the deeper it penetrates.
- Rinse and squeegee off excess. Push leftover product off the surface with a rubber squeegee.
- Leave overnight. Fully cured and walkable the next day.
Why Innerseal vs other damp solutions
Most damp-proofing products fall into one of four categories — and most have serious limitations.
| Controll Innerseal | Epoxy / resin coatings | Bitumen membranes | Crystalline additives | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Type | Silicate sealer that soaks in | Surface coating | Tar-based surface layer | Powder mixed into wet concrete |
| Breathable? | Yes — vapour escapes | No — traps moisture | No — fully sealed | Yes |
| Application | Spray or pour — DIY friendly | Needs trained installer | Requires torch or layered membrane | Added during construction only |
| Maintenance | None — lasts as long as concrete | Reapply every 5–10 years | Can crack or peel | Low — some self-healing |
| Lifespan | 30+ years | 5–10 years | 10–15 years | 10–20 years |
| VOC / fumes | VOC-free, odourless | Often contains solvents | Strong odour, harmful chemicals | Low to none |
Frequently asked questions
How long does Innerseal last?
Once cured, Innerseal forms a permanent crystalline barrier inside the substrate. It doesn't degrade, wear off, or need reapplication. Independent testing (TÜV Rheinland, Aqualogy, CBI) confirms protection lasting 30+ years — effectively as long as the concrete or masonry itself.
Can I apply Innerseal myself, or do I need a contractor?
Innerseal is designed for DIY application. For walls, you'll need a low-pressure garden sprayer. For floors, just pour it on and spread with a soft broom or squeegee. No specialist equipment, no contractor required.
Will Innerseal change the appearance of my surface?
No. Innerseal is colourless and works inside the substrate, not on top. The look, feel, and texture of your concrete or brick stays exactly the same. You can paint, render, or tile over it afterwards if you want.
Can I apply it to a damp surface?
Yes. Innerseal can be applied to substrates that are damp to the touch — it actually penetrates better when there's some moisture present. It must not be applied to standing water or fully saturated surfaces.
Is it safe for use around drinking water?
Yes. Controll Innerseal is approved for use in drinking water reservoirs and tanks. It's odourless, solvent-free, VOC-free, and won't leach into water once cured.
Does it work on painted or sealed surfaces?
No. Innerseal needs to penetrate bare substrate. Any existing paint, sealer, or coating must be mechanically removed first (sanding, grinding, or shot-blasting) before application.
Will it stop existing damp problems, or only prevent new ones?
Both. Innerseal blocks water ingress at the source, so existing damp surfaces will dry out once the moisture pathway is sealed. For severe damp problems with active leaks, address the source first (e.g. a broken pipe or failed flashing) before sealing.
How soon can I walk on or use a treated surface?
Touch-dry within a few hours, fully cured overnight. Light foot traffic the next day. For heavy use (vehicles, machinery), allow 48–72 hours.
What's the difference between 5L and 20L?
It's exactly the same product, just different container sizes. 5L covers up to 15 m² and is ideal for small DIY projects. 20L covers up to 60 m² and works out cheaper per litre — better value for larger projects or multiple surfaces.
How do I get a trade quote for a larger project?
For projects over 180 m² (3+ × 20L), email [email protected] with your project details. We offer trade pricing on bulk orders and can deliver palletised quantities anywhere in the UK.
